The Fifth Congress of Slavic Geographers and Ethnographers was held in Belgrade from 23 to 25 October 2024, organized by the “Jovan Cvijić” Geographical Institute of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA) and the “Vuk Karadžić” Cultural Center from Loznica.

The Fifth Congress of Slavic Geographers and Ethnographers was held in Belgrade from 23 to 25 October 2024, organized by the “Jovan Cvijić” Geographical Institute of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA) and the “Vuk Karadžić” Cultural Center from Loznica. Participants from 17 countries presented their research papers, with a total of 176 scholars from 47 institutions. This gathering provided a unique opportunity to become acquainted with the latest findings across various geographical disciplines. The congress revived the tradition after an 88-year hiatus, bringing together scientists from numerous Slavic countries as well as esteemed guests from other international institutions.

The Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation of the Republic of Serbia announced the Seventh call for the participation of talented young researchers - PhD students in the scientific research work of SRO.

 

Regarding the promotion of seven associates to the position of senior research associate, Dr. Marija Drobnjaković, Dr. Jelena Ćalić, Dr. Milan Milenković, Dr. Ana Milanović Pešić, Dr. Gorica Stanojević, Dr. Jovana Brankov, and Dr. Nina B. Ćurčić, a suitable cocktail reception was held at the Geographical Institute "Jovan Cvijić" of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. After this promotion, the number of senior research associates at the Institute increased to 16.

The special issue “Transboundary catchment erosion and pollution” is a follow up of the international conference, which was held in Belgrade, Serbia, in July 2023 and organized by Geographical institute “Jovan Cvijić” SASA.

As part of the bilateral project of scientific and technological cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and the People's Republic of China, a group of researchers from the Geographical Institute "Jovan Cvijić" SASA, Dr. Darko Vuković (project leader), Dr. Ana Milanović Pešić, Dr. Marko D. Petrović, and Dr. Stefan Denda (project team members) realized a study stay in the People's Republic of China on December 18–26, 2023.

In the period from 2021 to 2023, the Geographical Institute "Jovan Cvijić" SASA and the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) implemented a bilateral project of scientific and technological cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and the People's Republic of China entitled "Comparative Research on Sino-Serbia Disaster Risk Prevention and Control from the Viewpoint of Multi-disasters."
